In William Shakespeare's tragedy, King Lear, an aging king divides his kingdom among his three daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia, based on how much they profess to love him. The play explores themes of family, power, and the corrupting influence of flattery, ultimately resulting in a tragic loss of life.
